We recommend staying for a minimum of 2 nights in order to have the time to relax and really enjoy this very special space.
It is a small and intimate camp with 8 guest tents each one sleeping from 1 to 4 people. There is also a restaurant tent with Moroccan seating corner in case the weather is not good enough to be outside in the dunes.
Each individually designed tent is named after an Amazigh God whose name is engraved in the wooden doors. All the furniture is locally made by hand, often reclaimed. The toiletries supplied in the en-suites are natural, the fabrics are natural and everything from the clipboards and pencils used for feedback forms to the hot-water bottles are environmentally friendly.
The camp sources its water from their own well, solar panels provide all the electricity and an ingenious waste water system inspired by a Swiss charity filters the water so it can be used to irrigate their own oasis.
Add to this the mixer taps, dual flush toilets and use of biodegradable cleaning products and the list goes on and on.
The owner and manager, an inspiring yet humble figure, was born among the dunes into a nomadic family, and this region of Morocco remains his spiritual home. In 2018, he and I established this camp in Erg Chebbi with a strong eco-conscious vision—aiming to reduce environmental impact while promoting sustainable and responsible tourism. Walking with Nomads is proud to continue supporting the camp on its journey.
The camp is gaining quite a reputation for their menu and rightly so.
All meals are produced from locally grown, in season ingredients which are sourced from the market that morning. Their fabulous chef serves up a set menu with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. It consists of four courses, changed daily and last time I was there this was my experience:
Cream of Cauliflower Soup – served with home-made bread.
Artichoke Salad – with avocado, tomato, honeyed cheese and asparagus vinaigrette.
Quinoa Patties – with an almond crust and onion & pomegranate sauce.
Chocolate pudding with home-made saffron ice-cream.
