Because most of our eco-experiences are in remote areas, public transport is often not an option. But to get to Morocco itself, to avoid flying, why not consider the ferry from Spain which is less than 10 miles from Tangier in the North West of Morocco?
If you select one of our ECO Activities, see below for information on how to get there.
If you decide to do one of our ECO Tours, you need only tell us where you wish the tour to start from (any airport, train station, ferry port etc in Morocco) and we will collect you.
If you book the desert trek or desert eco camp (or both) they start in the town of Merzouga in the south of Morocco. It is safe and friendly with cafe’s, shops and hotels.
At 560km (9hrs) from Marrakech, 368km (5.5hrs) from Ouarzazate and 476km (7hrs) from Fes, it is easily accessible and there are several ways to get here.
For advice on transport options and hotels before and after your trek – get in touch with us.
This is the most environmentally conscious option but is not always possible or suitable. So we list various options below.
Bus
Public Taxi
Taxis for up to 6 people. If your group doesn’t fill the taxi, then other passengers may well join you. (Rules may be different during this covid era)

We can arrange a private taxi for you which be pre-ordered and just for you.
The closest airports to Merzouga are ERH Errachidia (Moulay Ali Cherif) and OZZ Ouarzazate
The two domestic airlines are Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia.
Please check direct with the airlines for up to date schedules.
From these airports you can either arrange your own transport or we will arrange transfers for you. Our airport transfer prices are as follows:
(All prices are per vehicle based on 1 to 5 passengers. For larger groups cost may increase, just ask for a quote)
Or, for complete peace of mind and comfort, our English speaking driver will collect you from anywhere in Morocco and transfer you directly to Merzouga in our private vehicles.
We can collect you from any airport, port or hotel – just let us know the details and we will do the rest.
Whatever you wish – if it is possible, we will arrange it for you. Just get in touch with us for a quote.
If you would like to slow the pace and enjoy more of Morocco, why not incorporate your desert trekking / camping experience into a longer tour of Morocco or even just add in a couple of overnight stops on the journey.
Take a look at our ECO Tours of Morocco or talk to us for bespoke details.
These can start in Todra or Dades. Both are on the route from Marrakech to the Desert and are beautiful areas with several accommodation options. We will advise on the most eco conscious amongst them.
Distance from Marrakech to Dades 258km 5hrs / and to Todra 360km / 6.5hrs
This is the most environmentally conscious option but is not always possible or suitable. So we list various options below.

The Rif Pottery and Rif Plant Distillation experiences are both based in the Taounate Province which is between Fes and Chefchaoeun in the North of Morocco.
The are no viable public transport option for these activities and therefore we will arrange a private transfer for you which can start at your hotel accommodation or at the airport etc.

You can reach it by bus (from Marrakech), public taxi or private transfer. Alternatively, we can include it as part of our longer tours. (Check out our ECO Tours or talk to us about our bespoke tours)
You will find Jarjeer just 24 kms from Marrakech on the Rue d’Amizmiz (P 2009) alongside the village of Oumnass. As you approach Oumnass village on the left, the road curves to the right where there is a sign for Jarjeer. Follow the piste at the sign on your right for about 200 metres, bearing to the right (do not go straight on at the junction), where you will see the entrance gate ahead.
It is also very easy to visit by bus. The number 45 from Sidi Mimoun will take you to Oumnass. If you are visiting Marrakech your hotel or riad will direct you to Sidi Mimoun. The bus driver will tell you when you get there if you ask him when you pay your fare (only 6 dh by the way). If you phone from the bus stop when you leave, the sanctuary will come and pick you up.
A taxi is also possible but be insistent in your request. A lot of taxi drivers don’t understand why you want to come and see donkeys and would rather take you to a carpet shop! However there are many drivers who know about the good work done here and will be happy to take you.
Your ECO Tour of Morocco can be adapted to start and end anywhere in Morocco. Just discuss your plans with us and we will help to design the best route. Our driver will then collect you from whichever airport, port, train station or hotel you require.
In order to completely avoid the need to fly, why not consider catching the ferry from Spain to Tangier. It is a very short crossing and this way you can travel through Europe on public transport prior to your Morocco Tour.
Sefrou is approximately 40 minutes from Fes.
We can either arrange a transfer for you in a private taxi or you can arrange your own public taxi (Grand Taxi).
Grand Taxi = 12dh per person but be aware that the car will fill up with other people (quite a few) before it departs. They leave from Slaki or ask any petit taxi (local to Fes only) for the grand taxi du Sefrou and they will take you to the right place to get the Grand Taxi.
The bus is so unreliable and bad in its exhaust emissions that we are unable to recommend it at this time.
We can help you with all your arrangements
