Because most of our eco-experiences are in remote areas, public transport is often not an option. But to get to Morocco itself, to avoid flying, why not consider the ferry from Spain which is less than 10 miles from Tangier in the North West of Morocco?

If you select one of our ECO Activities, see below for information on how to get there.

If you decide to do one of our ECO Tours, you need only tell us where you wish the tour to start from (any airport, train station, ferry port etc in Morocco) and we will collect you.

Desert Trekking in M'hamid / Chigaga

If you book M’hamid desert trekking – they start in the town of M’hamid in the south of Morocco. It is safe and friendly with cafe’s, shops and hotels.

At 450km (7hrs) from Marrakech and 257km (4hrs) from Ouarzazate and 98km (1.5hrs) from Zagora, it is easily accessible and there are several ways to get here.

For advice on transport options and hotels before and after your trek – get in touch with us.

Public Transport

This is the most environmentally conscious option but is not always possible or suitable. So we list various options below.

Bus

Supratours or CTM

  • For a direct bus to Mhamid, you need the CTM with one daily departure. The online destination is ‘Lamhamid Ghozlane’. CTM and Supratours also offer an option to Zagora
  • Its advisable to purchase bus tickets online in advance

Public Taxi

Taxis for up to 6 people. If your group doesn’t fill the taxi, then other passengers may well join you. Fairly hit and miss as an option.

Domestic Flights

Apart from Marrakech and Agadir, the closest airports to M’hamid are OZZ Ouarzazate (4.5hrs drive from M’hamid) and OZG Zagora (1.5 hrs drive from M’hamid).

The two domestic airlines are Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia.

  • Royal Air Maroc flies Casablanca to Zagora 3 times a week (only direct on a Friday)
  • Royal Air Maroc flies Casablanca and Marrakech to Ouarzazate daily.

There are also some direct flights from Europe to Ouarzazate – Ryan Air for example.

Please check direct with the airlines for up to date schedules as they change regularly.

Private Transfer

We can arrange a private transfer for you which will be pre-ordered and just for you with a professional English speaking driver.

From these airports you can either arrange your own transport or we will arrange transfers for you.  Our airport transfer prices are as follows:

  • Ouarzazate to M’hamid (5 hours) €300
  • Marrakech to M’hamid (9 hours) €350

(All prices are per vehicle based on 1 to 5 passengers. For larger groups cost may increase, just ask for a quote)

Or, for complete peace of mind and comfort, our English speaking driver will collect you from anywhere in Morocco and transfer you directly to M’hamid in our private vehicles.

We can collect you from any airport, port or hotel – just let us know the details and we will do the rest.

Whatever you wish – if it is possible, we will arrange it for you. Just get in touch with us for a quote.

As part of a longer tour of Morocco

If you would like to slow the pace and enjoy more of Morocco, why not incorporate your desert trekking / camping experience into a longer tour of Morocco or even just add in a couple of overnight stops on the journey.

Take a look at our ECO Tours of Morocco or talk to us for bespoke details.

Desert Trek & ECO Camp / Merzouga

If you book the Merzouga desert trek and / or Erg Chebi desert eco camp  they start in the town of Merzouga in the south of Morocco. It is safe and friendly with cafe’s, shops and hotels.

At 560km (9hrs) from Marrakech,  368km (5.5hrs) from Ouarzazate and 476km (7hrs) from Fes, it is easily accessible and there are several ways to get here.

Rif Pottery / Plants

The Rif Pottery and Rif Plant Distillation experiences are both based in the Taounate Province which is between Fes and Chefchaoeun in the North of Morocco.

The are no viable public transport option for these activities and therefore we will arrange a private transfer for you which can start at your hotel accommodation or at  the airport etc.

Alternatively you can incorporate this activity into one of our ECO Tours of Morocco.

Organic Farm

The Organic Farm is situated 65km (1.5hrs drive) from Marrakech in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

You cannot reach it by bus but you could get a public taxi for less than Euro 5 however, you have to wait for the taxi to fill up before it departs and you will need to change taxis par way through the journey.

Alternatively, we can provide a transfer for Euro 120 which is pre booked and with a professional English speaking driver.

Better still why not include it as part of our longer tours. (Check out our ECO Tours or talk to us about our bespoke tours)

Donkey Sanctuary

You will find Jarjeer just 24 kms from Marrakech on the Rue d’Amizmiz (P 2009) alongside the village of Oumnass. As you approach Oumnass village on the left, the road curves to the right where there is a sign for Jarjeer. Follow the piste at the sign on your right for about 200 metres, bearing to the right (do not go straight on at the junction), where you will see the entrance gate ahead.

It is also very easy to visit by bus. The number 45 from Sidi Mimoun will take you to Oumnass. If you are visiting Marrakech your hotel or riad will direct you to Sidi Mimoun. The bus driver will tell you when you get there if you ask him when you pay your fare (only 6 dh by the way). If you phone from the bus stop when you leave, the sanctuary will come and pick you up.

A taxi is also possible but be insistent in your request. A lot of taxi drivers don’t understand why you want to come and see donkeys and would rather take you to a carpet shop! However there are many drivers who know about the good work done here and will be happy to take you.

ECO Tour of Morocco

Your ECO Tour of Morocco can be adapted to start and end anywhere in Morocco. Just discuss your plans with us and we will help to design the best route. Our driver will then collect you from whichever Moroccan airport, port, train station or hotel you require.

In order to completely avoid the need to fly, why not consider catching the ferry from Spain to Tangier. It is a very short crossing and this way you can travel through Europe on public transport prior to your Morocco Tour.

Sefrou

Sefrou is approximately 40 minutes from Fes.

We can either arrange a transfer for you in a private taxi or you can arrange your own public taxi (Grand Taxi).

Grand Taxi = 12dh per person but be aware that the car will fill up with other people (quite a few) before it departs. They leave from Slaki or ask any petit taxi (local to Fes only) for the grand taxi du Sefrou and they will take you to the right place to get the Grand Taxi.

The bus is so unreliable and bad in its exhaust emissions that we are unable to recommend it at this time.

We will arrange for the tour coordinator to meet you on arrival in Sefrou. Then if you wish to go on to Bhalil after this, the coordinator will arrange that on your behalf. But as always, if you are on a tour with us, we will take care of all of the transport requirements for you.
